Our Symbol
WACONDAThe Kansa Indians (yes, “Kansa” with no “s”) felt many elements of our natural world were instilled with mysterious powers. Called “Waconda”, these unexplained forces could be found in the sun, stars, moon, wind, lightning and a variety of animals.
While the Kansa didn’t understand how or why, they knew that the Waconda had an affect on the lives of humans.
Even today, relatively little is known about the natural world. We know we are a part of it and connected to it, but our place and the role we play in maintaining the harmony of nature is still a mystery.
